I’ve always believed that there’s more to an old piece of paper than meets the eye. They may seem like little more than relics of a bygone era, but to me, they’re windows to stories waiting to be rediscovered. Perhaps it’s because I’ve always had a fascination with the idea that the past isn’t really gone—it’s just waiting to be uncovered. And sometimes, if you’re lucky enough, those discoveries come in the most unexpected of ways, like when my friend said to me 'I have something I’m sure you’ll find interesting.' A few words, yet the curiosity they sparked was enough to send me on an unexpected journey. What my friend had come across was an old solicitor’s ledger, long forgotten and discarded, left to gather dust in a skip. Little did I know, it would become a key to unlocking stories that had been hidden for generations.
The ledger, like so many other pieces in my collection, is more than just an object. It’s a reminder that there’s always more to discover if we’re willing to look. That serendipity isn’t something to wait for—it’s something to embrace, to seek out, to allow into our lives. And sometimes, if we’re lucky enough, it comes in the form of a discarded ledger, just waiting for someone to uncover the story it holds.

Unearthing the Past: How an Old Ledger Revealed Hidden Family Secrets
Absolutely believe in serendipity, but also that we get back what we put out into the world. IF you were not known as the keeper of old things, the ledger would never have come to you, and IF you were not a tenacious researcher, you never would have found the story or followed it as far as you did. And now that you’ve shared this story,, who knows what will come next!
Great work and congratulations on this fabulous find!
Marvellous treasure, Paul!! May you have many more in the New Year! Cheers.
